Tuesday Tidbits :: On Honesty

If I was walking into a room and had toilet paper stuck to the bottom of my shoe, would you tell me?

Not only have I told people when I've seen this but I've also told them when their shirt tag is sticking out or their lipstick was smeared. It's a little trickier when it's a guy and their fly is open. Not that I'm looking or anything but sometimes, it's pretty obvious.

I do my best to conduct myself honestly, both personally, and in business. I'm likely to suggest a client order 1,000 business cards rather than 500 because the cost difference is so minimal. If you ask me for my opinion, I'm going to tell you the truth. I will let you know if an outfit is not flattering or if there's another way I can re-design your marketing material that will enhance your message because I know you want to look your best and I am going to help you get there - even if Honesty is a little tough to hear. I truly believe I'm not doing any favors by agreeing with someone just to make them feel better. But, I do strive to offer explanations and give alternatives because it's in my nature to want to help people succeed!

Entrepreneur James Altucher said, "Honesty is the fastest way to prevent a mistake from turning into a failure." Sometimes, the truth isn't what we necessarily want to hear but what we need to hear in order to put our best face forward.
