Being active in the community through volunteerism offers opportunities to participate and serve others. Networking is critical in business as it can build a client base but also is essential to reciprocal relationship building. It’s important to be seen as a referral source and that is done through consistent networking and activism. The Fulshear-Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, Fulshear Professionals and The Cinco Ranch Katy and Surrounding Areas Networking group breakout meetings have been excellent for meeting and engaging in business discussions and referral giving and receiving.
Giving back to the community has been an important focus for Page by Page Graphic Design owner, Carey Handley. For six years, she and her exceptional Chocolate Labrador Retriever, Godiva Handley, visited schools (including several schools for children with Special Needs), nursing homes, scout troops, day care centers and even an acting studio as part of a national Therapy Dog Program through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (formerly Therapy Dogs, Inc.) and Tender Loving K-9’s to bring comfort and companionship to others. She also participated in a R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dog) Program through Intermountain Therapy Animals. Accruing over 200 visits in six years, Godiva Handley achieved the rank of Therapy Dog Excellent through the American Kennel Club (AKC). Godiva recently retired from Therapy Dog work due to health issues but the experience had a profound impact on both the human and canine members of this Therapy Dog team in addition to the hundreds of adults and children who were touched by these visits. Godiva and Carey were featured in articles in the Houston Chronicle and Katy Magazine. Godiva retired from Therapy Dog work in 2018. She lost her battle with kidney disease in 2019 and is greatly missed.
